Irina Marcoff is a doctor of Physical Therapy with more than a decade of direct patient care. She started her career as a physical therapist in private practice in New York City. There she gained experience in manual therapies, neuromuscular re-education and feldenkrais techniques. Her introduction to therapeutic yoga also began early in her career while working with post-operative clients and geriatric population.
She witnessed constant faster progress in functional mobility and decrease in pain when her clients participated in gentle yoga movements after therapy sessions. However there was a considerable downside of using yoga as a home program in post-operative clients. That was because yoga itself does not account for post-operative precautions. There was a lot of concern that unsupervised use of traditional yoga could cause more injury.
This led her on the path to create yoga program with modified poses while adhering to post-operative precautions. After years of research, consultation with doctors and yoga practitioners she created post-operative yoga program and expanded it to various surgical procedures.
